Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, has laid a Written Ministerial Statement informing Parliament that the first 16 Free School proposals are ready to progress to the next stage of the process.

Brighton & Hove's controversial school admissions lottery system has failed in one of its key aims, that of giving deprived children equal access to better performing schools, according to a study by academics from the Institute of Education, London and the University of Bristol.
