The NFER Swansea Office was established in Swansea in 1978. Its range of recent clients include the Welsh Assembly Government, the Welsh Local Government Association, Countryside Council for Wales, Welsh Language Board, Big Lottery Fund, Basic Skills Agency, individual LAs, and the former ACCAC and ELWa.

Now located on the Townhill Campus of Swansea Metropolitan University, the office’s particular strengths are:

  • Knowledge of the school, college and lifelong learning agendas in Wales
  • Extensive research experience of the agenda for Children’s Services in Wales
  • Expertise in development of tests and assessments and classroom materials
  • Expertise in conducting qualitative research and literature reviews
  • Welsh language expertise, and experience in undertaking evaluative research in Welsh and English.

  • Evaluation of the Education Welfare Service in Wales, WAG
  • Evaluation of the SELAN (Special Education) Grant, WAG
  • Evaluation of Integrated Children’s Centres, BIG
  • The role of Toy Libraries within the Play Agenda, NFER
  • The Structure and Impact of Children’s Services in Wales, WLGA
  • Evaluation of Aspects of the Work of Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin (Welsh Playgroups Movement), Welsh Language Board
  • Review of School Breakfast Clubs, WLGA
  • Contribution to Learning of the Voluntary Sector, NC-ELWA.
