Matt Walker

Research Officer in the Research, Evaluation and Information Department.

" I joined the NFER’s Slough Office in 2004, after completing a Master of Research degree at Lancaster University. In August 2007 I transferred to the Foundation’s York Office, where I am currently based.

As a Research Officer, you can expect to work on a wide range of projects spanning a range of educational sectors, from early years to work-based learning and higher education. This makes the job challenging but also varied and interesting and ultimately very rewarding.

I have also been able to grow and develop my expertise in the area of ICT, which is an area of particularly interest for me, and I have been able to continue my work in this area following my move to York.

Another enjoyable aspect of the job is being able to travel around the country, meeting people and conducting interviews as part of fieldwork. This can involve overnight stays and international travel.

A lot of the work is team based and in both York and Slough I have enjoyed working in a supportive, collegiate environment, where everyone pulls together to meet report and proposal deadlines. "
