This booklet aims to help local authorities envisage what research-engaged schools have to offer and how local authorities can encourage their development. It covers key issues, including what advantages whole-school research engagement can bring to local authorities, and what local authorities can do to support whole-school research engagement. Using examples from research with local authorities, the booklet also examines how to become a research-engaged local authority and demonstrates the great deal that it can contribute to the development of research-engaged schools. A list of useful resources is also included. How to cite this publication: Sharp, C., Handscomb, G., Eames, A., Sanders, D. and Tomlinson, K.
