This survey collects information about the employment rates if primary and secondary teachers in maintained schools in England and Wales. The staff turnover rate in 2008 was 11.7 per cent and the recruitment rate was 12.2 per cent. These rates were similar to 2006. There was a slight increase in the percentage of the teaching profession who left the maintained sector in 2008, but this was more than compensated for by the number of new recruits.
