Frances is a Senior Research Officer in the Department for Research in Assessment and Measurement currently working on Key Stage 2 English test development projects, with responsibility for writing assessment. Also other projects involving the assessment of reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.

Member of the editorial board of Educational Research journal.

Former Primary School Teacher.

Linguistic analysis of children's written and spoken discourse, Key stage 2 writing.
