Writing up the research

NFER is committed to communicating the results of research in a digestible and accessible way, to suit clients’ needs. We have an ongoing training programme for research staff to develop their skills in writing for specific audiences, and to encourage the use of plain English. As part of our programme, we have identified a number of people who can act as coaches for those who are new to writing or who are very used to writing for just one audience, such as academics. Through our coaching, we are able to help staff to think about the reader, plan their documents appropriately, use the correct language, and employ non-text elements such as tables and diagrams in ways that are helpful to readers.
