The European Survey on Language Competences (ESLC)
The NFER is currently undertaking the European Commission’s survey on language competences in England.
The survey is a major initiative by the European Commission to support the development of language learning policies across Europe. It assesses the language proficiency of students at the end of Key Stage 4, and is being carried out in 14 European countries. The aim of the project is to provide participating countries with comparable data on foreign language competence alongside knowledge about good practice in language teaching and learning.
