Lead Economist

Location of position is: Slough

Salary in the range: £49,793-£56,047 depending upon qualifications and experience; the level of appointment and associated salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.

NFER is the UK's largest independent provider of research, assessment and information services for education, training and children's services. Joining the Education Policy and Practice team you’ll take forward its varied and important work of independent research within the UK, and our rapidly growing international portfolio. You will explore the key questions facing education policy and practice to inform and influence policy makers and practitioners in creating an excellent education system.

As the Lead Economist you will use your economic analysis to shed new light on education issues. You will lead and manage projects that apply an understanding of market failure, cost-effectiveness analysis, behavioural science, incentives analysis and econometric modelling, and assist on report drafting and preparing presentations.

About you

  • A degree in economics, with a strong microeconomics and evaluation element
  • Strong quantitative research skills
  • Experience of applying economic principles and analysis to policy questions
  • Ability to understand the principles of project management
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work with a considerable degree of autonomy and to consistently meet deadlines
