NFER Tests Suite 2 shortlisted for Education Resources Award 2017
1 March 2017
The National Foundation for Educational Research has been named as a finalist in the Education Resources Awards 2017. The tests for primary schools, NFER Tests Suite 2, have been shortlisted for the category ‘Primary Resource or Equipment – Tools for leadership, management and assessment including ICT’.
Responding to the news, Emily Jones from NFER’s Centre for Assessment said: “NFER is very pleased to be a finalist. We aim to develop assessments tailored to teachers’ needs that support their evaluation of pupils’ attainment and progress and the planning of on-going teaching and learning. Factors such as accessibility and ease of marking have always been key considerations but the development of user-friendly spreadsheets, which allow a comparison of pupil or class performance on each question against a national sample, is an innovation that we believe extends the value of the tests.”
The winners will be announced at the annual Education Resources Awards ceremony, which will be held this year at the National Conference Centre. Emily will attend with other colleagues from the Foundation who have contributed to the success of NFER Tests Suite 2.
About NFER Tests Suite 2
NFER launched this set of tests in 2015 following the success of its first suite that comprised a range of tests updated to match the 2014 primary curriculum. Suite 2 consists of reading, mathematics, grammar and punctuation, and spelling tests for Years 3, 4 and 5 to support the measurement of pupil progress within Key Stage 2. Typically, these tests have been taken in the summer term to measure attainment and year-on-year progress, but a recently launched autumn phase of tests allows schools to take a baseline measure of pupil knowledge, understanding and skills at the beginning of the academic year. Using both autumn and summer tests enables pupil progress and attainment to be tracked during the academic year.
These tests have received glowing praise. In a recent Suite 2 summer test survey, 94 per cent of customers said they were likely to use the tests in the future and over half (57 per cent) gave the tests the highest rating of 10 out of 10.
