Leveraging the power of education data in the Gulf

3 October 2017, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Our Head of International Education, Ben Durbin gave a seminar on ‘leveraging the power of education data in the Gulf: Insights from the UK experience’ at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government in Dubai.

Education data can be a powerful tool for analysing and shaping effective policy. The UK has developed several administrative datasets over recent years which enable a wide range of questions to be addressed relating, for example, to the impact of public-private partnerships on school performance, the labour market dynamics of the teaching workforce, and educational outcomes for disadvantaged students. This seminar provided an introduction to the role of data in shaping education in the UK, introduced some specific examples of research undertaken by NFER, and explored how the power of education data might also be leveraged constructively in the UAE and comparatively across the Gulf.
