Policy Forum for Wales Keynote Seminar: Next steps for the teaching workforce in Wales

Research Manager Robert Smith spoke on a panel on options for improving the recruitment and retention of teachers in Wales. He discussed findings from recent NFER research Engaging Teachers, which investigated the factors that influence teacher retention, in the light of NFER’s long-standing expertise in Welsh educational policy and practice.
Robert is a Research Manager at NFER Cymru, the Welsh Office of the National Foundation for Educational Research. He has extensive experience of designing and leading a range of research and evaluation projects for clients, mostly in Wales. These have included the Welsh Government, WLGA, individual local authorities and charities. He has led on work focusing on school improvement and support systems, structural change within education and training, workforce development, Welsh language policy, and youth and social inclusion issues. He is a fluent Welsh speaker, and has a particular interest in the impact of devolution on policy in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
