Jemma joined the Centre for Assessment in November 2013. Currently, Jemma is involved in developing the 2016 National Reading Test for Wales and is leading the development of the second round of NFER’s own suite of tests. Recently, Jemma has worked on developing National Curriculum reading tests for Key Stage One and Teacher Skills Literacy tests for the Standards and Testing Agency. Within these projects she has experience of text selection and editing, item writing and reviewing, artwork commissioning and large scale standardisation trialling.

Jemma has a 1st BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Warwick, and an MSc (Distinction) in Developmental Disorders from the University of Lancaster. During her degrees she was involved in various projects researching language and literacy development in primary mainstream and special needs schools. Before joining NFER Jemma worked as a learning support assistant in both mainstream and special needs schools. Within these roles she gained experience of developing and adapting literacy materials for children with special educational needs and providing support for pupils during KS1, KS2 and KS3 National Curriculum assessments.
