Karen Wespieser (nee Whitby) has led research in the education sector for over ten years and has extensive knowledge and experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. She has worked at all levels of research – conducting fieldwork, managing research teams, commissioning and quality assuring agencies and producing research for policy.
Karen is Head of Impact at NFER, leading a team pioneering new approaches to getting evidence acted upon across the sector through commissioning new research, engaging extensively with external stakeholders, and working closely with communications and media experts.
Between 2012 and 2014, Karen worked as a Research Manager at BBC Media Action (the BBC’s international development charity) where she contributed to large scale multi-country longitudinal quantitative research and specialised in research in the Middle East and North Africa.
From 2008 to 2012, Karen was the Research Manager at CfBT Education Trust where she was involved in the Strategic Forum for Research in Education (http://www.sfre.ac.uk), the Educational Evidence Portal (http://www.eep.ac.uk) and the Evidence Informed Policy and Practice in Education in Europe (http://www.eippee.eu), the Coalition for Evidence Based Education (http://cebenetwork.org), and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Foreign Languages.
Karen began her career at NFER and worked at the Foundation for four years before taking a year-long sabbatical to undertake research in Indonesia for VSO.
