Since joining NFER in 2012 Oliver has worked on a variety of assessment projects for a range of clients. These have included the UK trialling of the PISA based test for schools, the development of group reading tests for GL-Assessment and item writing for the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum science tests on behalf of STA. Outside of assessment Oliver has been involved in the phonics screening check national data collection exercise and a number of large scale surveys, including an investigation into cultural education in London schools and year 9 pupils’ attitudes towards science.

Oliver has a BA in Biology from the University of Oxford and an MA in Assessment in Education from King’s College London. Prior to joining NFER Oliver was a secondary school science teacher in the North East of England, with particular responsibility for the teaching of A Level Biology. His main interests lie in assessment, science education and gifted and talented education.
