Supported marking service for Year 2-9 Numerical Reasoning Tests 2019, Wales

What are the purposes and aims of the service?

On behalf of Welsh Government, NFER is aiming to support and develop teacher expertise in numerical reasoning by implementing a supported marking service which gives schools access to high quality support with their test marking. This support will consist of marking sessions for schools, consortia training events and post-event online support for practitioners attending sessions, to handle any enquiries through to the end of the marking period.

The purpose of the service is to embed expertise in marking Numerical Reasoning Tests within schools across Wales, and give schools ownership of test outcomes.

Who is sponsoring NFER to carry out this work?

Welsh Government

Who can attend the marking sessions?

All maintained schools in Wales with students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are eligible to send practitioners to the supported marking sessions. Pupil referral units (PRUs) and special schools will also be invited and and will be eligible to send one teacher to these sessions.

Do schools have to take part?

All Welsh secondary schools are encouraged to attend a supported marking session. These events will provide live script marking with support and guidance from an expert marking team comprising numeracy specialists, and offer practitioners support with undertaking high volumes of marking in a short timescale. However, attendance is not compulsory.

Why should I take part?

The sessions provide access to continuing professional development and give practitioners the opportunity to gain further expertise in marking. The face-to-face, online and continual support offered to practitioners throughout the marking period reinforces the validity of test data collected.

How do I register to attend?

The supported marking sessions are being held from 9.30am to 5pm at the following dates and locations.

Date Location
Friday 10 May Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells
Saturday 11 May Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff
Monday 13 May Venue Cymru, Llandudno
Wednesday 15 May Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli
Thursday 16 May Principality Stadium, Cardiff

Please use the online registration form, or paper form, sent to your school to book the recommended number of delegates to their preferred session(s). Schools will need to provide contact details for the practitioners attending, their preferred language for delivery, as well as preferred choice of event. Further information about the marking sessions will be sent to individual practitioners once they have registered their attendance.

Schools will receive a payment for attendance at the supported marking sessions, and individual practitioners will be able to claim for expenses incurred in travelling to the sessions directly from NFER.

How do I need to prepare for the supported marking sessions?

We would encourage all attendees to familiarise themselves with the markscheme for the year group(s) they will be marking prior to the session; this will ensure you get the most out of the session. We would encourage you to bring as many test papers as you can to the event; in previous sessions, attendees have marked between 100-300 scripts at each session.

Who can be contacted for more information?

If you have any questions or queries about the supported marking service, please contact NFER on  01753 637116 or by email  WGSM@nfer.ac.uk

Where can I find out about the new online assessments?

Personalised assessments are being phased in over a three-year period and will replace the paper-based National Tests; this started with the Numeracy Procedural Personalised Assessment which became available to schools in December 2018. In personalised or ‘adpative’ assessments the questions are generated based on the learner’s response to the previous question. This provides an individual assessment experience, tailors the level of challenge for every learner, and provides feedback on learners’ skills. For more information on the personalised assessments, please visit this page.

How will NFER use and protect the registration data collected?

NFER will ensure that participants’ data is processed securely, and their confidentiality respected. We have well-established procedures and monitoring in place to obtain, process, analyse, archive and eventually dispose of data in a secure manner. We ensure that our staff and partners are aware of the importance of data security and operate within the provisions of the current data protective legislation in force.

Gwasanaeth marcio â chymorth ar gyfer Blwyddyn 2- 9 Profion Rhesymu Rhifiadol 2019, Cymru

Beth yw nodau a dibenion y gwasanaeth?

Ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru, mae NFER yn anelu at gefnogi a datblygu arbenigedd athrawon ym maes rhesymu rhifiadol trwy gynnal gwasanaeth marcio â chymorth sy’n galluogi ysgolion i gael cymorth o safon uchel â marcio’u profion. Bydd y cymorth hwn yn cynnwys sesiynau marcio i ysgolion, digwyddiadau hyfforddi i gonsortia a chymorth drwy’r e-bost ar ôl y digwyddiadau ar gyfer ymarferwyr a ddaeth i’r sesiynau, i drafod unrhyw ymholiadau hyd at ddiwedd y cyfnod marcio.

Diben y gwasanaeth yw ymgorffori arbenigedd o ran marcio profion rhesymu rhifiadol mewn ysgolion ar draws Cymru a rhoi perchenogaeth i ysgolion ar ddeilliannau’r profion.

Pwy sy’n noddi NFER i gyflawni’r gwaith hwn?

Llywodraeth Cymru

Pwy all fynychu’r sesiynau marcio?

Mae pob ysgol a gynhelir yng Nghymru, sydd â disgyblion ym mlynyddoedd 7, 8 a 9, yn gymwys i anfon ymarferwyr i’r sesiynau marcio â chymorth. Bydd ysgolion arbennig ac Unedau Cyfeirio Disgyblion (UCDau) hefyd yn cael gwahoddiad i fynychu sesiwn a bydd hawl ganddynt i anfon un athro i’r sesiynau hyn.

A oes rhaid i ysgolion gymryd rhan?

Caiff pob ysgol uwchradd yng Nghymru ei hannog i ddod i sesiwn marcio â chymorth. Bydd y digwyddiadau hyn yn rhoi cyfle i farcio papurau go iawn gyda chymorth ac arweiniad gan dîm marcio arbenigol sy’n cynnwys arbenigwyr ar rifedd, ac yn rhoi cymorth i ymarferwyr wrth farcio llawer o bapurau o fewn cyfnod byr. Fodd bynnag, nid yw’n orfodol i ysgol gymryd rhan.

Pam ddylwn i gymryd rhan?

Mae’r sesiynau’n cynnig datblygiad proffesiynol parhaus ac yn rhoi’r cyfle i ymarferwyr ennill arbenigedd marcio pellach. Mae’r cymorth wyneb-yn-wyneb, ar-lein a pharhaus a gynigir i ymarferwyr trwy gydol y cyfnod marcio yn pwysleisio dilysrwydd y data sy’n cael ei gasglu o’r profion.

Sut rydw i’n cofrestru i fynychu?

Bydd y sesiynau marcio â chymorth yn cael eu cynnal o 10am i 5pm ar y dyddiadau ac yn lleoliadau canlynol.

Dyddiad Lleoliad
Dydd Gwener 10 Mai Gwesty’r Metropole, Llandrindod
Dydd Sadwrn 11 Mai Stadiwm Dinas Caerdydd, Caerdydd
Dydd Llun 13 Mai Venue Cymru, Llandudno
Dydd Mercher 15 Mai Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli
Dydd lau 16 Mai Stadiwm Principality, Caerdydd

Defnyddiwch y ffurflen gofrestru ar-lein a anfonwyd at eich ysgol i gadw lleoedd ar gyfer y nifer argymelledig o ymarferwyr yn eu dewis sesiwn/sesiynau. Bydd angen i ysgolion ddarparu manylion cyswllt ar gyfer yr ymarferwyr sy’n mynychu, eu dewis iaith ynghyd â’u dewis o ddigwyddiad. Bydd rhagor o wybodaeth am y sesiynau marcio’n cael eu hanfon at ymarferwyr unigol pan fyddant wedi trefnu eu lle.

Bydd ysgolion yn cael tâl am fynychu’r sesiynau marcio â chymorth a bydd ymarferwyr unigol yn gallu hawlio’u treuliau teithio i’r sesiynau yn uniongyrchol oddi wrth NFER.

Sut mae angen i mi baratoi ar gyfer y sesiynau marcio â chymorth?

Byddem yn annog pawb i ymgyfarwyddo â’r cynllun marcio ar gyfer y grŵp/grwpiau blwyddyn y byddant yn eu marcio cyn y sesiwn; bydd hyn yn sicrhau eich bod chi’n cael y budd mwyaf o’r sesiwn. Byddem yn eich annog chi i ddod â chynifer o bapurau profion ag y gallwch i’r digwyddiad; mewn sesiynau blaenorol, mae mynychwyr wedi marcio rhwng 100 - 300 o sgriptiau ym mhob sesiwn.

Sut gellid cael rhagor o wybodaeth?

Os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau neu ymholiadau, cysylltwch â ni ar 01753 637116 neu drwy anfon e-bost at WGSM@nfer.ac.uk

Sut caf i wybodaeth am yr asesiadau newydd arlein?

Mae asesiadau personol yn dod i mewn yn raddol dros gyfnod o dair blynedd a byddant yn disodli’r Profion Cenedlaethol ar bapur; dechreuwyd gyda’r Rhifedd Gweithdrefnol, aeth yn fyw i ysgolion ym mis Rhagfyr 2018. Mewn asesiad personol neu ‘addasol’ mae’r cwestiynau yn cael eu cynhyrchu yn ôl ymateb y dysgwr i’r cwestiwn blaenorol. Fel hyn cynigir profiad asesu personol, sy’n teilwra lefel yr her i bob dysgwr ac yn darparu adborth ar sgiliau’r dysgwr. Am ragor o wybodaeth am yr asesiadau personol ewch i'r dudalen hon.

Sut fydd NFER yn defnyddio ac yn diogelu y data cofrestru a gesglir?

Bydd NFER yn sicrhau bod data cyfranogwyr yn cael ei brosesu’n ddiogel gan barchu eu cyfrinachedd. Mae trefniadau hir-sefydlog a monitro mewn grym i gasglu, prosesu, dadansoddi, storio ac yn y diwedd dinistrio’r data mewn modd diogel. Rydym yn sicrhau bod ein staff a phartneriaid yn deall pwysigrwydd diogelu data ac yn gweithredu o fewn y deddfau diogelu data cyfredol sydd mewn grym.
