Diagnostic guidance provided with NFER Tests

NFER Tests teacher guides are available for each year, term and subject and provide comprehensive guidance for administering and marking the assessments. In addition, valuable diagnostic guidance is provided in the teacher guides for many of our tests, including:

  • spring term tests across all subjects
  • grammar & punctuation and spelling tests
  • year 6 autumn tests

This diagnostic guidance will help you anticipate the types of error your pupils are likely to make, to identify gaps in learning and inform your teaching.

Diagnostic commentaries have been provided for test questions for which pupils in our sample systematically made similar errors and demonstrate widespread misunderstanding or misconceptions. The percentage of pupils who answered the question correctly is shown alongside information about common errors and implications for teaching.
