How Do Season of Birth and Length of Schooling Affect Children's Attainment at Key Stage 1? A question revisited

A study of a national random sample in 1995 of 114 schools in 50 English and Welsh LEAs showed that autumn-born children did best and summer-borns did least well. Older children have the advantage of greater maturity. Length of schooling was related to assessment results, but not in a straightforward manner. This paper ends with a discussion of the implications of these findings.
