The composition and performance of University Technical Colleges (UTCs)
While the Government is committed to increasing the numbers of students attending University Technical Colleges (UTCs), little is known about what impact they are having on local schools or about the characteristics of the students choosing to attend UTCs. This research will fill this gap in the current literature, providing policy makers with a better understanding of whether UTCs are meeting their policy aims of being a new technical option for students of all abilities and improving the diversity of education options in the local area.
Secondary analysis of the National Pupil Dataset (NPD). Analysis will include basic descriptives of the characteristics of UTCs and their students. We will also include significance tests, where appropriate.
