What do I get from the service?

How much does the service cost?
Prices start from £75 (see Prices) and are valid until 30 April 2017. Prices exclude VAT which will be added at the prevailing rate at the time of invoicing. Prices are based on school type (primary or secondary) and survey type (General, Themed or Write Your Own). Prices do not vary according to size of school or the number of pupils on roll.

When do I need to pay?
You will be sent an invoice with the questionnaire pack once we have received your order and you will have 30 days to pay the invoice. Reports will not be produced until payment has been received or you have provided a purchase order number.

When can I run the surveys?
You can use the survey and ask for reports to be produced at any time up to and including 14 July 2017. (The surveys cannot be used after this time or reports produced, as it is likely that the questionnaire content will change between academic years.)

How much time do the surveys take?
The pupil survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete (including time for instructions). The staff survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The parent survey will take approximately ten minutes to complete.

How long does it take to receive the surveys?
You will be sent all survey materials within five working days if your order is received before 2pm. This excludes bank holidays and the Christmas period when NFER is closed. For those ordering ‘Write Your Own’ surveys, the whole order will only be processed once the questions for the ‘Write Your Own’ survey have been written.

How long does it take to receive the reports?
Once all your surveys are complete, and you have sent us your ‘Survey Finished Form’, we will produce your reports within ten working days of receiving the notification. This excludes bank holidays and the Christmas period when NFER is closed.

How do I get copies of the materials?
Copies of all the forms you need are available on your school’s page on the School Portal.

What happens if I lose the login details?
Phone 01753 637007 to ask for your login details. You will be asked security questions.

How do I know how many responses have been done online?
Phone 01753 637007 and we will tell you how many online surveys have been completed.

Why can’t I see the surveys before I buy them?
Due to copyright reasons, we are not able to send the full surveys to you before you have ordered them. We can, however, discuss the themes with you.

Can I order both online and paper surveys for parents?
No. Unfortunately we cannot offer a combination of online and paper surveys. If you are worried this may exclude some parents, you could invite parents into the school to use the school’s computers.

Why do paper surveys cost more?
Parent paper surveys include the cost of printing and postage. Please see our guidance on getting a good response rate from parent online surveys.

Why can’t I do surveys for pupils in Foundation Stage, year 1 and year 2?
It is felt that pupils at this age will need significant help to complete the survey and will, therefore, not be independent.

Do parents of two or more children need to complete more parent surveys?
This is up to you. You can ask parents to complete the survey with one particular child in mind or do a survey for each child.

Do I have to pay for paper parent surveys that are not used?
There is one set price based on school type and survey type. To get the best results from your survey, try to encourage as many parents as possible to complete the survey.

What happens if I have an Ofsted inspection when I planned to run the surveys?
If you are notified of an Ofsted inspection after you have ordered the surveys, and no longer want to take part in the surveys, you must notify NFER immediately. You will be asked to send us a copy of your notification of inspection and to return any survey instructions and paper surveys. We will then refund your costs.

Can I cancel my order?
Cancellations are accepted up to the time of the creation of online surveys or despatch of the surveys and instructions. Where cancellations are accepted by NFER, NFER reserves the right to charge you for any reasonable administration and handling costs.

We are a middle school. What surveys should we order?
You can either enter all of your parents/staff for a particular survey type (either primary or secondary), where results will be in one report format, or you can do a combination with one report for parents/staff in primary years and one report for parents/staff in secondary year groups.

We are an all-through school. What surveys should we order?
If you want to survey all your pupils, parents and staff, we advise you run a combination of both primary and secondary surveys.

Can my pupils use tablets to complete the survey?
Yes, the surveys are compatible with tablets and other mobile devices.
