Strategic research partnership with AfriChild Centre, Makerere University, Uganda

In 2018, NFER entered into a two year research partnership with African academics from the AfriChild Centre, at the Makerere University in Uganda.

The AfriChild Centre undertakes extensive research on the wellbeing of the African child, in order to inform evidence-based decision-making.

Multi-strand partnership approach

The research, which is currently ongoing, focuses on policy-relevant issues in Ugandan education. We are using a multi-strand partnership approach, which involves primary and secondary data collection and analysis.

As part of this partnership, we will produce both policy briefs and academic papers related to equity and inclusion. We will also provide capacity building and support to local universities.

This north-south research partnership harnesses NFER’s global expertise and best practice knowledge. Together with AfriChild’s strong understanding of local policy, we can help to fill evidence gaps around what works to improve educational outcomes for children in Uganda.
