Evaluation of the IntoTech Programme

NFER, in partnership with ImpactEd, have been commissioned by Speakers for Schools to carry out an evaluation of the pilot year of the IntoTech programme, funded by Speakers for Schools and the Hg Foundation.

The programme will offer talks, employer-led career insight days and work experience for young people in Years 10 and 11, with the aim of inspiring them to consider a career in technology. Key target groups will be less advantaged young people and girls.

The purpose of the evaluation is to gain an understanding of programme effectiveness and impacts, with a view to informing an impact evaluation of a subsequent three-year programme.

We are working with 20 state secondary schools who have previously expressed an interest in taking part in this evaluation.

This is a pilot evaluation which could lead to an impact evaluation of a subsequent three-year programme.

The pilot year evaluation will involve qualitative telephone interviews with teachers, three case-study visits to schools to gather qualitative data from staff and students on programme delivery and perceived outcomes, plus interviews with employers involved in programme delivery and IntoTech programme managers and strand leads.

It will also involve the collection of monitoring information on pupil participation in IntoTech using ImpactEd’s School Impact Platform.

By participating in the trial, you will help us inform the future development of the IntoTech Programme for the benefit of a larger number of schools and pupils.

The pilot programme will be delivered during the 2024-25 academic year.

Recruitment for this pilot has been completed.
