Our new year 1 and year 2 spring assessments are now available for use from spring 2020. These child-friendly materials complement our existing key stage 1 assessment range, so you can take a consistent approach to attainment and progress monitoring. In addition, we have included diagnostic commentaries with our spring term materials, providing you with formative benefits to help you inform teaching and learning.
One set of reading and mathematics assessments is available for use in the year 1 and year 2 spring terms, enabling you to:
- highlight areas for ongoing development and support midway through the key stage 1 years
- identify which errors and misconceptions made by pupils were commonly made by the standardisation group
- build familiarity and confidence in children taking assessments ahead of the national curriculum tests.
These new materials have been carefully developed by our assessment experts, taking into consideration the young age of the children. In the year 1 spring term, scaffolding is included for you to provide young pupils with appropriate support, while the year 2 spring assessments closely follow the format of the end of key stage 1 assessments to help build familiarity and confidence. To enable you to review the quality of these child-friendly materials, examples of the type of content you'll find in our key stage 1 spring assessments are available here.
Our spring term assessments include valuable diagnostic guidance offering formative benefits
Our spring term assessments include valuable diagnostic guidance to help you to identify gaps in learning and support further teaching midway through the key stage 1 years. Diagnostic commentaries are provided for test questions for which pupils in our large nationally representative sample systematically made similar errors, enabling you to compare your pupils' performance with the performance of this trial group. Examples of the type of guidance you'll find in our key stage 1 materials are available here.
