GCSE and A-Levels Assessments Digital Conference: Recovery Curriculums, Remote Learning and Delivering Fair Results

With the recent government announcement to cancel GCSEs and A levels and lockdown measures resuming, the implementation of recovery curriculums and the delivery of remote education remains a priority for schools across England. This event will feature contributions from exam boards and school leaders on how we can collectively boost student’s learning ahead of 2021 summer assessments and reduce the impact of COVID-19 on student outcomes. It will also share how other educational organisations are utilising blended and remote learning to reduce attainment gaps.

NFER’s Senior Research Manager, Julie Nelson, is on the panel discussion exploring the impact of attainment gaps and concerns for social mobility on assessment outcomes. Also on the panel is Sarah-Jane Jaggard (SENCO, The Stanway School), Rosalind Goates (Head of Advocacy and Campaigns, Social Mobility Foundation/Department for Opportunities), and Jonathan Bland (Headteacher, The Stanway School).

The panel will be:

• Exploring the disproportionate impact school closures and remote learning has had on attainment levels, social mobility and student wellbeing
• Reviewing the impact of school closures and missed instructional time for students with various needs including those with low attainment levels, socio-economically disadvantaged, SEND, English as a second language and CYPs in high risk categories
• Widening access to digital resources and parental support to prevent disadvantaged pupils falling behind
• Maximising the use of the coronavirus catch-up premium to effectively bridge knowledge gaps and get student learning back on track
