The teacher workforce crisis

Wednesday 14 June 2023

10:30 - 12:30

Online or at the Nuffield Foundation Head Office

100 St John Street, London, EC1M 4EH

The Nuffield Foundation are holding a hybrid event to bring together researchers, policy-makers and school leaders to discuss the evidence explaining the current landscape of the teacher workforce.

NFER’s School Workforce Lead, Jack Worth, will be giving a presentation on ‘What explains the teacher supply challenge in England and why does it matter?’. He will be drawing on NFER’s annual report on the Teacher Workforce in England for 2023, which finds that a key driver of falling recruitment and retention is teacher pay, which has fallen in real terms since 2010 and has lost competitiveness with the graduate workforce and the wider labour market.
