School Choices Scoping – Homework Clubs

NFER has been commissioned by The Education Endowment Foundation to understand homework support, including homework clubs, in secondary schools in England.

This research aims to explore the nature of homework club provision and other homework support in secondary schools in England.

To be eligible to take part, your school must be a state-maintained secondary school in England.

The scoping phase uses a survey and web scraping of school websites. This will be used to assess the feasibility of an impact evaluation on homework clubs.

Participation in the scoping phase involves a member of the Senior Leadership Team completing a short online survey about homework support in their school.

In addition, we will gather information about homework clubs directly from school websites.

All survey respondents will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning one of 5 x £200 setting level prizes. The first 200 survey participants will receive a £10 thank you voucher.

The scoping phase will take place between February 2025 and February 2026.

All eligible schools will receive an email from NFER inviting them to take part in the short online survey in September 2025. Schools are not required to sign up in advance.

NFER is responsible for the day-to-day management of the trial. Please contact the evaluation team at [email protected] if you have any questions about the evaluation.
