Literacy in Malta: The 1999 national survey of the attainment of year 2 pupils

How well can 6- to 7-year-olds in Malta read, in Maltese and English? This was the subject of the first ever National Literacy Survey in Malta, carried out in March 1999. Virtually every child in the country born in 1992 was tested in both Maltese and English, using equivalent parallel tests, and complete data were gathered on 4,554 children.
