This report provides evidence of strategies used in schools to develop self-assessment skills and focuses, in particular, on students in KS4. It explores the many activities in place during this transitional period which provide opportunties for students to develop their self-critical skills. The report describes how teachers try to balance the promotion of students' confidence and self-esteem with the development of self-critical perspectives, so that students can take a realistic view of their strengths and weaknesses and make decisions about their plans for the future.
