Sixth Form Colleges Salaries and Numbers Survey 2006

The Sixth Form College Forum (SFCF), in conjunction with Local Government Analysis and Research (LGAR), carries out an annual survey of sixth form colleges. In 2006, the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) supported them by carrying out the data capture, cleaning and reporting aspects for the survey. The survey collects data on sixth form college staff, including salaries and the numbers of each type of staff. The resulting findings are used by sixth form colleges to help renew their salary arrangements.
Key Findings for 2006
- Sixth form colleges in England catered for 148,959 full time equivalent students under the age of 19 and 12,622 full time equivalent adult students .
- Average salaries for principals were around 5% higher, and for vice-principals around 6% higher, than in 2005.
- More teachers were employed than in 2005 due to an increase in the number of part-time teachers.
- Teachers’ average salaries had increased by 3.8% since 2005.
- Only 6% of the workforce within the colleges was classified as ‘non-white’.
