Commenting on the new Education Secretary’s announcement that work has begun on delivering the government’s pledge to recruit 6,500 new teachers, NFER School Workforce Lead, Jack Worth, said:
“NFER welcomes the new government making teacher supply an urgent policy priority, as solving this key challenge would provide the education sector with the capacity it needs to deliver a high-quality education for children and young people.
"Ministers will need to develop a long-term strategy to improve the attractiveness of teaching as a profession to enter and to stay in, with a range of ambitious and cost-effective measures to improve both recruitment and retention."
